#63 Temptation, Sin and Prayer

Oct. 8, 2011- A blessed and reflective reading to all (".)

Luke 22 (excerpts)
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
...Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

...But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. 22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!”

31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

...he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed

45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

Praise GOD!

Difference between temptation and sin:

Temptation- lure; attraction
> The Hebrew word for temptation is 'nasah.' It signifies a test to prove the quality of something
> It is sometimes used to denote 'squeezing.'
> Tests are not bad things. We can be certain that all spiritual tests are for our benefit, but it depends upon how we respond to them
> Temptations can be used by Satan as bait on the hook of sin. Once ensnared he only has to reel us in. Temptation is a reality that we have to daily live with.

Sin- illegal or immoral action; wrongdoing; wickedness
> The Hebrew word for sin is 'chata.' It means 'to miss the mark or go astray.'
> Spiritually it means that we do not come up to God's standards of holiness and righteousness
> Sin is a choice we make.

Everyday is a life of choice. We are always given what to opt for. In our hearts and in our thoughts, we know for sure that choosing good over bad is right; choosing right from wrong; choosing what is true and not false. But the hardest part is putting into action that we have to choose good, right, and true.

If we will rely only on ourselves, we may never always choose what is right. We may think it is the best for us, but unknowingly, it is not. That is why we need our Loving Lord to guide us all the way on our choices :)

Yes, life is full of temptations. It will never stop; it will be all around us and the reality of it, such temptations will be use to our disadvantage by Satan, the deceiver of all deceivers, the father of all lies, and yes, we can fall on his trap easily that is why we need our Loving Lord for His guiding light everyday :)

To be tempted is just alright but to fall into sin is against God.

So how can we live our lives with temptations all around us?
Simple......adhere to God :)

1) Live by His words- "in all we say, in all we do, we center it God;"
Psalm 119:11
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.

2) Make Jesus Christ our model in living life;
Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

3) pray, pray, pray......wholeheartedly :)
Matthew 26:41
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Remember:
God has equipped us with His full-armour; we can never be helpless against all kinds of temptations, and if we hold on to Him firmly, He will never let go of us, and He will strengthen us :)

Ephesians 6:10-18
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Inspirational Prayer:
Loving Lord, amidst everyday temptations, we are so blessed we have You who strengthens us. Thank you for the never-ending blessings Lord; blessings and not luck because we know everything comes from You. Thank You for your words that gives life and enlightenment. Thank You that You are always there to hear our prayers. Thank you for equipping us with your full-armour. We know that we will win all our battles because we are strong in You and in Your mighty power. Forgive us please when we fall into temptations. Help us to live our lives to You for your glory and honor, everyday, every moment, every breath. In Jesus Mighty name, Amen.

Today is the day :)
If you have not received Jesus Christ yet in your heart, today is the day. May you embrace His love and His gift :)

"Lord Jesus, I believe You are truly the Son of God. I confess that I have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. Please forgive all my wrongdoing, and let me live in relationship with You from now on. I receive You as my personal Savior, accepting the work You accomplished once and for all on the cross. Thank You for saving me. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to You. Amen." (ref prayer by: Mr. Charles Stanley)

Why am I doing this? Simple...."I am driven by the eternal destiny of others."
